To celebrate its 1,000th hotel in the world, Accor’s ibis brand recently held simultaneous events on three continents: at ibis Surabaya Basuki Rahmat in Indonesia; ibis Berlin Kurfurstendamm in Germany; and ibis Rio De Janeiro Botafogo in Brazil.
Celebrations started first in Indonesia where the hotel arranged 1,000 food packages to be distributed on the streets of Surabaya then continued with a party at the hotel. More than 200 people attended the event including His Excellency Sapta Norwander, vice minister for tourism and creative economy, the governor of Java and others.
Given the time difference between the three counties, the Indonesians had to party until the wee hours to take part in a live cross between the three cities at 1am local time. Gerard Guillouet, Accor’s senior vice president Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore said he was thrilled that Indonesia could play a pivotal role in the global event.
“ibis is our largest brand here, so we are delighted to showcase this new ibis in Surabaya which features all the new brand standards,” he said. Following the brand’s revolution two years ago, the ibis brand has enjoyed sustained growth, with 52% of Accor’s openings in 2013 being under the ibis family.
Including ibis budget and ibis Styles along with ibis, the megabrand boasts over 1,700 hotels.
ibis, the worldwide economy hotel brand of the Accor group, was established in 1974, ibis is the European leader and one of the first economy hotel chains in the world, with 1000 hotels in 59 countries.
