Hotels.com has compiled a list of the latest search rates on its website for the hottest destinations of Chinese travellers. Despite the growth of visitors to Hong Kong from mainland China slowing down in the latter part of last year, Hong Kong remained top of the list with an increase of almost 50 per cent year-over-year in search rate for the upcoming long holiday travel period (Golden Week). The third most popular destination, Tokyo, also saw an over 60 per cent increase in search rate for this travel period. All three destinations, according to the Hotel Price Index (HPI), recorded a decrease in hotel price paid per night by Chinese travellers in the first half of 2015, which also serves as a favourable factor that attracts the more budget-conscious Chinese travellers amid the economic instability.
