The 3rd “JAPAN’S FOOD” EXPORT FAIR – an exclusive trade show for importers and international buyers to import Japan’s foods and beverages, will be held from 27-29 November in Japan.

In 2016, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries approached Reed Exhibitions Japan, the Largest Trade Show Organiser in Japan, for help with a trade show promoting the export of Japanese food products. Tad Ishizumi, President of Reed Exhibitions Japan, jumped at the opportunity.

“I was surprised by the proposal as it is the opposite of the current approach; that is, Japanese food suppliers exhibiting at international trade shows,” he said. “However, I was quickly convinced that it would be more effective to attract buyers from around the world to Japan.”

The first edition of “JAPAN’S FOOD” EXPORT FAIR saw 304 Japanese food suppliers exhibiting and 12,863 importers/buyers visiting from 71 countries and regions. The 2nd edition, the number of exhibitors went doubled to 638 companies and so, attracted 14, 677 visitors from 72 counties/regions.

The show is designed to enable international purchasing and importing. To ensure smooth negotiations with international buyers, all exhibitors were required to have English speaking staff as well as pamphlets and product information displays on-site. According to a survey conducted after the exhibition, 48,000 business negotiations were held during the two editions, which had generated JPY 35.5 billion in business transactions.

In 2019, the coming edition will be increasingly gathering 700 exhibitors including 200 new comers and 18,000 international buyers from 80 countries and regions. The highlights are the newly launching zones of Health & Beauty Food, Japanese Tea, and Alcohol/Sake. Other zones of Seafood, Processed Food, Seasoning, Confectionery/Snack, Beverage, Agri-food/Meat, and Tableware are also doubling its size and the number of exhibitors.
